Ojai Valley Community Hospital Enhances Surgical Services with Robotic Technology

Ojai Valley Community Hospital Becomes the Only Tri-Counties Hospital to Offer the New ROSA Total Knee Replacement System

Ojai Valley Community Hospital (OVCH) is enhancing its surgical program in 2020, giving patients in the Ojai Valley better access to medical services closer to home. The Ojai hospital is also bringing in the cutting-edge ROSA Total Knee Replacement System, a new robotically-assisted surgical system that enhances total knee replacement surgery.

“Over the years, Community Memorial Health System, the Ojai hospital and the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation have been dedicated to upgrading and remodeling the Ojai hospital campus so that it meets the community’s needs and is regarded by many as a place that patients will want to come for care,” said Haady Lashkari, OVCH’s Chief Administrative Officer. “We continue to bring excellent and modern healthcare options to Ojai.”

Offering surgical services in the Ojai Valley gives family and friends access to patients, allowing them to better support loved ones as they recover.

ROSA Total Knee Replacement System brings the most advanced joint replacement technology to Ojai Valley Community Hospital, which is the only hospital in the Tri-Counties offering this technology. Total joint replacement is among the most commonly performed elective surgeries in the United States today.

OVCH also offers general surgery with Dr. Lisa Babashoff, minimally Invasive OB/GYN surgery with Dr. Kayvahn P. Steck-Bayat, and podiatry surgery with Dr. James Beaty. Knee replacement surgeries with the ROSA system are available from surgeons Dr. Thomas Golden, Dr. Petros Frousiakia, and Dr. Stephan Sweet.

Ojai Valley Community Hospital’s purchase of the ROSA Total Knee Replacement System was made possible by a significant donation from the non-profit Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation. “This shows how much Ojai Valley residents value their hospital,” said Foundation President Steve Frank. Since its inception in 2005, the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation has given over $11 million to support the Ojai hospital and its Continuing Care Center.

“We live in a very generous community and one that recognizes the importance of having healthcare services close to home,” Frank said. With regard to purchasing the ROSA knee system for OVCH, Frank said, “This the first time I am aware of that we were given the opportunity to participate in something that will make a big difference in the longevity of revenue and importance for the hospital. It will enhance patient care and give patients an opportunity to experience cutting-edge surgery that is only being offered at a few places in the state.”

The ROSA system combines robotic precision with industry-leading knee implants to help surgeons personalize knee replacement surgery for patients.

The Ojai Valley Community Hospital Campus

The Ojai Valley Community Hospital Campus includes a 25-bed acute care hospital, an emergency room, a 66-bed Continuing Care Center and a new, modernized skilled nursing facility scheduled to open in 2020.

ROSA knee includes features to assist with bone resections and assess the state of soft tissues to facilitate implant positioning intraoperatively. Data provided by ROSA knee enables surgeons to use computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments, allowing for greater precision and flexibility during procedures.

OVCH is a 25-bed acute care hospital with an emergency room, four beds for Intensive Care patients and 21 medical/surgical beds that also can serve patients needing skilled nursing care. The hospital also has a 66-bed Continuing Care Center and is building a new, modernized skilled nursing facility with 75 beds, opening in 2020.
